The gingival retraction cord is made of pure cotton interlinked chain-like fine threads, contains no medication, and is intended for single use. It is available in five sizes based on thickness: 2, 1, 0, 00, and 000 (from thickest to thinnest).
0#(Medium):Used for lower anterior teeth; filling restorations in Class I, IV, and V cavities; upper cord in the "double-cord retraction" technique.
00#(Fine): Used for veneer preparation and bonding; handling thin and fragile tissues during filling restoration.
000#(Finest): Used as the lower cord in the "double-cord retraction" technique for anterior teeth; double packing.
01#(Coarse): #01 and #02 cords without medicament are ideal for tissue control and pre- or post-preparation packing after soaking in a hemostatic agent; placed before anterior tooth preparation for protection.
02#(Thickest): Used as the upper cord in the "double-cord retraction" technique; placed before anterior tooth preparation for protection.
